Working
Waste water can be concentrated at low cost by leading a relatively dry air stream
(e.g. outside air or the air which is ventilated from a building) through a Galicos unit.
The air stream becomes saturated with vapour because of the enormous contact area between
the myriads of long stretched air bubbles and the film shaped flows of liquid in which they
are carried along (see working principle). The evaporation capacity depends on the temperature and humidity of the air
stream and is indicated in the table below. The saturated air stream can generally be
discharged in the atmosphere. In case the liquid contains volatile or airborn
components that are not allowed to be discharged into the atmosphere it may be necessary to
add specific additives to the liquid. In this way the system is also used as a scrubber to
remove e.g odours.
